The 2004 NFL Season Preview
By: Jason Cunningham (8/15/2004)
The NFL Season is approaching. We should see an interesting story
develop throughout the season. This will probably be the year of the
running back, while sorry quarterbacks, sometimes you need to be left out.
Priest Holmes of the Kansas City Chiefs will
lead his team back to the playoffs and the league in rushing. The two best teams in the AFC will be the
Indianapolis Colts and the NFL's best team in 2003, the New England Patriots. Peyton
Manning will lead the Colts back to the AFC Championship; however, the
brick wall they call the Patriots will send them home again. The England Patriots have long been known as an one
dimensional offense; they only can passing the football, yet, they have made themselves
better by acquiring running back Corey Dillion.
The NFC will be hungry and anxious at
dethroning the New England Patriots. The best team in the NFL's senior
conference is the Philadelphia Eagles. Finally the Eagles' quarterback Donovan
McNabb has an opportunity to throw to a wide receiver who can break off a 60
yard touchdown, and no one in the stadium should be surprised. Terrell Owens is the receiver that the Eagles needed the past three
years to get to the Superbowl. The defending NFC Champions Carolina Panthers
will have another solid season; however, until they give running back Deshaun
Foster some love, they will not get back to the big game. The rest of
the conference is pretty evenly matched, either the St. Louis Rams are going to
be 11-5 or 7-9.
Predictions: NFL Rookie of Year: Pittsburgh
Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger - He is ready to play in the NFL - I was wrong
about him before the combines. Sleeper: Dallas Cowboys RB Julius Jones is the
real deal when he wants to be.
NFL MVP: New England Patriots QB Tom Brady - He is going to lead
his team back to the Superbowl
NFL Defensive Player of the Year: Baltimore Ravens LB Ray Lewis
- He is so good that they might want to rename it after him. Plus he has to
prove that being on the cover of EA Sports John Madden Football does not bring an injury.
NFL Special Teams Player of the Year: New Orleans Saints WR
Michael Lewis - He is fast, elusive and can catch the football
Superbowl Prediction: Philadelphia Eagles 24 - New England
Patriots 16
