2005 NBA Draft Overshadowed by
Bush & BET
By: Jason Cunningham (6/28/2005)
Tonight was the annual NBA Draft. Unlike other years,
basketball had some competition for their audience in the form of President
George W Bush and the BET 5th Annual Awards Show. Do you
remember when the NBA Draft was a showcase show?
NBA Commissioner David Stern must have been pulling
out his hair when BET announced the date it would air its awards show. Yet
when President announced a press conference to talk about the War in Iraq and
Terrorism, Stern probably thought the day could not get any worse.
Indeed, some people watched the NBA Draft. Well, I did at least watch some of it.
Yet, I had to watch a portion of the BET Awards, while the Draft was at commercial as well as the
reaction to the President's speech. Right now, I am viewing the replay of Bush's
Presidential Address. Who says those in their twenties do not care about
politics and what happens in the world?
Next year, the NBA will hope to have less TV competition during the 2006 NBA Draft. If so, there will be no need to flip the channel.
