The 2005 NFC Championship Preview
Article by: Jason Cunningham (1/23/2004)
The Philadelphia Eagles will host the Atlanta Falcons in
today's NFC Championship. (3:30 pm EST) This will be the Eagles fourth
straight year in the NFC Championship, of which they have lost the three
previous ones. The Atlanta Falcons will attempt to reach the Superbowl for the
first time since 1998.
Hands down this is a great match up of
quarterbacks. Both are known for their leadership and great judgments on the
field. The Eagles QB Donovan McNabb will have an opportunity to get the monkey
off his team's back and reach their first Superbowl since he has been at the
helm. While Atlanta's Michael Vick can elevate his stature as an NFL QB with
more than jets. Vick has a cannon for an arm, and can use it in cold weather.
Both of these QB's have exhibited in the past that the weather does not stop
them, and with the possibility of blizzard conditions, they will
definitely use all of their weapons.
The Eagles will not have the services of WR Terrell
Owens because of a injured ankle. However the Eagles are the team to beat after
the "Holy Reception" by Freddie Mitchell resulted in a TD as the Eagles beat the
Minnesota Vikings. Today, the Eagles will need their core of receivers to catch
the ball, but the services of RB Brian Westbrook may be called on quite often
due to adverse weather conditions. The Atlanta Falcons are going to run the ball
today. Running backs Warrick Dunn, the quick and TJ Duckett, the bruiser, along
with QB Michael Vick will attempt to exploit the Eagles' run defense.
Prediction Philadelphia Eagles 24
- Atlanta Falcons 23 (2004 NFL
Preview).
