2005 NFL Preview
By: Jason Cunningham (5/23/2005)
The NFL Football Season will be here again before we know it. It has
now become a website tradition, and I am proud to bring you the 2005 NFL
Preview. Like last year, I plan on predicting the two teams in the Superbowl, but
this year, I will pick the correct winner.
People are already wondering who will be the
team to beat in the AFC. This is a very difficult question to answer with the
departure of Pittsburgh's WR Plaxico Burress (signed with NY Giants) and the New
England Patriots losing two coordinators, Roman Crennel (Cleveland Browns Head
Coach) and Charlie Weiss (University of Notre
Dame Head Coach), and All-Pro
Linebacker Teddy Bruschi, who will probably miss the entire 2005 season due to a stroke. This should be the year that the Indianapolis Colts get to the Superbowl. Unfortunately, I could not disagree more.
Sure the Colts will get deep in the playoffs again, but that defense is still
suspect in cold weather. Even without Burress, the
Pittsburgh Steelers will be representing the AFC in the 2005-2006 Superbowl.
Believe me it pangs
me to say this. I grew up in East Cleveland, OH. The Browns and Steelers is the
best rivalry in the NFL, and I live for the "Brown and Orange." Pittsburgh has a
great running game in RBs Duce Staley and Jerome Bettis, a mature QB
Ben Roethlisberger, and a defense that always perform
Yeomen like work.
The NFC is easy to predict. I believe the Atlanta Falcons will win
the Superbowl. That means Atlanta's QB Michael Vick will finally get a ring.
Initially, I had the Eagles as my pick, but with the Terrell Owens's salary
dispute, they cannot forget any notion of a championship this year.
2005 Predictions: NFL MVP: San Diego RB
LaDainian Tomlinson - he is a great player. Besides, Indianapolis Colts' QB
Peyton Manning cannot win every year.
NFL Offensive Player of the Year:
Indianapolis Colts' QB Peyton Manning - He will throw at least 40 TDs. You might
be bold enough to give him the award before the season starts.
NFL Coach of the Year - Colts Coach Tony
Dungy - they will go 12-4 in the regular season.
NFL Rookies of the Year: Offensive Miami
Dolphins Ronnie Brown - the Dolphins have no one else to run the football.
Defensive: Colts CB Marlon Jackson - I had to pick somebody.
NFL Superbowl: Atlanta Falcons 23 -
Pittsburgh Steelers 19.
