The 2005 NHL Draft: Did Anyone
Follow It?
By: Jason Cunningham
August 1, 2005
This past Saturday marked the return of the NHL
Draft, since the NHL and its players ended the lockout. Not only was the draft
not on TV, but not many I've spoken to in the past couple of days even cared about the event.
The Pittsburgh Penguins selected Sidney Crosby with the overall first pick.
Crosby is supposed to be the second coming of "The Great One" Wayne Gretzky and
Mario Lemieux.
Hockey may be back, however judging from the
coverage it received on sports channels over the weekend, the NHL Draft drew
less interest than indoor racquetball. Hopefully professional hockey will be
successful this fall, but you should not count on it.
