The 2005 Superbowl & Eagles' Terrell Owens
Article by: Jason Cunningham (2/2/2005)
When I wrote the 2004 NFL Season Preview, some people
thought yours truly had lost his mind. I concluded that the Philadelphia Eagles
would not only get to the Superbowl, but defeat the New England Patriots. At
least now I know, that my team picks for the big game were correct. The golden
nugget for the Eagles, this season has been their star wide receiver, Terrell
Owens.
Terrell Owens is definitely the best receiver in
the NFC, therefore apologies go out to Vikings' Randy Moss. In 14 games this
season, he managed 77 receptions for 1200 yards and 14 TDs. You think the
Eagles' QB Donovan McNabb minds having a receiver who has big play potential.
Owens is the missing link that left the Eagles with three straight NFC
Championship losses. Yes, the Eagles have played four games without him, and won
the last two; which now allows them to suit up for a NFL Championship on Sunday.
However the Eagles will need Owens in the Superbowl; actually running pass
patterns in order for them to win.
I am quite sure that on Sunday, Terrell Owens will
be in the starting lineup. It does not matter to me if he believes "God is using
him," or that he is playing the role of Knicks Willis Reeds, as long as he
plays. Otherwise my prediction that the Eagles will win the Superbowl is in
serious jeopardy. Philadelphia fans should be getting prepared to celebrate all
night long.
