The 2005 Superbowl Preview
Article by: Jason Cunningham (1/25/2004)
I am glad to see that the two teams, which were picked
before the season by yours truly will meet in the 2005 NFL Superbowl (2004 NFL
Preview) The New England Patriots, the AFC Champion has assured
themselves a chance to win a third Superbowl in the last four years. The
Philadelphia Eagles are making their first trip to the NFL Championship in 24
years.
The Eagles finally have made it
to the big game after losing three straight NFC Championships. Their QB Donovan
McNabb has a chance to win not only the Superbowl, but put a fork in everyone
who booed him when the Eagles selected him in the first round of 1999 NFL Draft.
The New England Patriots will again
play the role of defending Superbowl Champion. They are led by one the NFL's
best ever sixth round draft pick, QB Tom Brady. What really makes the Patriots a
scary match up for any defensive coordinator is the fact they finally have a
premier running back in Corey Dillion! Before this year, the Patriots were more
depended on the arm of Brady, but Dillon's 1519 rushing yards in 14
regular season games were golden.
The defense will be the story of this year's
Superbowl. The Eagles' Safety, Brian Dawkins is truly one of the league's best
hitters. His hit on Atlanta's Alge Crumpler in last Sunday's game made people
around me say "ouch." That probably will remain in my top ten, NFC Championship
tackles. Wide receivers have a lot of courage in the NFL, but I probably
would not want Dawkins getting many shots of me. The Eagles overall have a very
fast defense, and their middle linebacker Jeremiah Trotter has lived up to his
All-Pro status. The New England Patriots are blessed with a true defensive
playmaker in safety Rodney Harrison. Actually the whole defensive from
linebacker Ted Bruschi to lineman Richard Seymour are dedicated of chaos and
destruction for any opposing offensive unit. It is really going when 11 year
veteran of the Patriots, Troy Brown plays wide receiver or lines up as a
defensive back.
One question concerning the Superbowl that has not
been answered? Will the Eagles' wide receiver Terrell Owens play in the last
game of the NFL season? If his ankle is stable then the Eagles will have their
missing link. It is almost impossible to stop Owens, and he would open up QB
McNabb's options in the passing game. Prediction: Philadelphia Eagles 24
- New England 21 - I cannot go my earlier prediction this year.
