49ers' Alex Smith Will Make
First NFL Start
By: Jason Cunningham (10/05/2005)
On Sunday, the number one overall draft
pick, 49ers' Alex Smith will make his NFL start. Unfortunately for him it will
be against the red hot and undefeated Indianapolis Colts (4-0), who have not
given up more than 10 points to any team this season. Smith was brought into the
game last Sunday after then starter Tim Rattay looked very ineffective in the
team's loss against the Arizona Cardinals.
San Francisco wide receiver Brandon
Lloyd and running back Kevan Barlow will need to be effective Sunday, otherwise
it will a long day for Alex Smith. This will be a good test for the young QB who
starred at the University of Utah, but regardless of the outcome, he seems
poised to be good at this level. Do not expect the 49ers to win, however we will
see some flashes on Sunday of why he was chosen number one in this year's NFL
Draft.
