Another Look at the Abortion
Issue
People have varying
opinions about the abortion issue. Some on either side of the debate make it
such an issue that it determines their vote for a politician or what place or
worship they attend. When the Supreme Court made Roe vs. Wade the law of the
land in 1973, the country had more issue to become over, and there is plenty of
evidence to suggest things have not changed.
The right to life movement is at
the forefront of trying to get the abortion law overturned. Their basic argument
focuses on the unborn fetus as being a living being, and those who favor
abortion have dehumanized the fetus, because people want to terminate the
pregnancy. In most cases, they have the blessing of the Republican Party for it
is one of their focal points. Also, many American religious leaders support the
right to life issue as a moral issue.
We can debate all day what
can be done to stop abortion in America. There is another side of the issue,
those who uphold abortion to be a woman's right. While some of the arguments
including the attempt to prove the fetus may not develop into a human being is
quite ludicrous. Also, what if you are raped or die for continuing the
pregnancy, those may be legitimate gripes with those who support the right to
life issue. From living with the reality of a rape, the psychological harm may
be to the detriment of the pregnant woman and fetus.
I wonder if tax cuts are helping
individuals who are deciding whether to have an abortion or continuing the
pregnancy. We can bring all of these children into the world, but who is going
to take care of them if their parent choose not to handle the responsibility.
Many people who are against abortion do not feel it is fair to pay for children
whose parents do not pay for them, but what other options do we have on the
table? Is it not more morally wrong to bring children in this world, and let
them go to bed at night hungry. We need to be looking at both sides of the
equation. I believe God looks unfavorably at the act of abortion, but equally at
the zeal at which many of us would a child to go hungry or not have the
necessary medical and educational remedies that any other citizen in this
country may take for granted. Maybe more studies need to done, for could a vote
against against abortion produce more hungry children? I am not sure, maybe it
is vice versa. If anyone has any published articles they can be submitted on the
