Are the Broncos Ready for the Colts?
Article by: Jason Cunningham (1/06/2004)
This the second meeting of the Indianapolis Colts versus
the Denver Broncos in consecutive weeks. Denver won last week by a score of
33-14. However this week's match up has a little more on the line, for the loser
of the game will not play again in this NFL season.
The Broncos were given a victory on January 2, 2005, when
they faced the Indianapolis Colts. Last week, most of the Colts starters
including QB Peyton Manning only played one series. The Broncos will have to
face Manning, who threw a record 49 TDs during the regular season, three
receivers over 1000 yards in receiving yards, and a running back named Edgerrin
James that amassed over 2000 yards in total offense. By any reasonable person's
standard, the Broncos must stop the Colts high powered offense, otherwise start
making plans for the off season.
The Denver Broncos lack identity. Will it be the
run or the passing attack that dominates against the Indianapolis Colts.
Sometimes QB Jake Plummer is unstoppable, and then on other occasions he proves
he can be baited into a bad mistake. Regardless of what Plummer shows up this
weekend; the Peyton machine will prove to be too much. This probably will not
end up in a score similar to the USC and Oklahoma National Championship Game,
but the Colts offense and defense have the potential to make this upcoming
playoff game very ugly.
