Stu Jackson, No love for Ron Artest
Article by: Jason Cunningham (4/20/2004)
The NBA's senior vice president of basketball
operations, Stu Jackson suspended Indiana Pacers Forward, Ron Artest for today's
playoff match up versus the Boston Celtics. Artest came off the bench during a
scuffle involving his teammate, Jermaine O'Neal during Game One of the first
round series.
Ron Artest started to go on the court and
thought better and ran back to the bench. Yet, Stu Jackson, in light of the
situation still followed the strict interpretation of the NBA rule. "Any player
not in the game that comes on the court will serve a one game suspension without
pay." Clearly Ron Artest did not participate in the medley, nor say anything to
the officials.
After watching the incident several times, no
one would not have blame Stu Jackson for not suspending Artest, except the
Boston Celtics faithful. It is obvious that Artest showed maturity by not
fighting, however still there is no reward in cooling heads prevailing, at least
in this case.
