Reasons Not To Add Your Boss on Facebook!

Facebook has turned into the ultimate social network. The website can boost of its ability to reconnect childhood friends to college roommates. Unfortunately, some people get carried away on Facebook. Therefore, some comments made on Facebook can get you fired from your job. If you work in Corporate America, you should think twice before adding your boss as a friend on Facebook.

Friends’ Comments about You!

Many individuals never reveal their personal information on Facebook; they only use the website to keep in touch with high school or college friends via e-mail. Unfortunately, some people have friends that may occasionally write about past events that occurred in high school or college. In your opinion, some information is just too personal to reveal, even on Facebook. However, some of your friends may not share your opinion. As a result, some people are willing to share information about your past drug use and/or other illegal acts that you may have committed. Sure, you can always delete a post placed on your Facebook, but the damage may already be done, especially if your boss or other superiors in the workplace read the post prior to its deletion.

Personally, I would not add my boss on Facebook. You never know what your boss may read about you. Besides, your boss may render judgment against you because of your friend’s post about you, even if the action occurred 15 years ago. Not only can your past actions can cause you to lose a job promotion, but also some past actions can get you fired from your job.

Summary

Facebook is a great way to communicate with your family and friends. Since most people use the website as a social network, I strongly advise you not to add your boss to your Facebook page. Some personal information found on Facebook can be damaging to your professional career, even if it is unintentional.
