Why Major League Baseball Has Zero Credibility?

Once upon a time, the general public thought baseball players like Roger Clemens, Alex Rodriguez and Mark McGwire were among the greatest players in Major League Baseball history. Now, we wonder if any of the above mentioned players will ever be enshrined in Cooperstown, the Baseball Hall of Fame! We now know that a juiced ball did not cause the home run explosion in the 1990s; steroids and other banned substances were the catalyst for the “home run era.”

When we learned that Alex Rodriguez tested positive for steroids in 2003, Major League Baseball lost the rest of its credibility. A-Rod was supposed to be the “clean baseball player.” In the past, on numerous occasions, Alex Rodriguez had denied ever using steroids. Now, even if he eventually breaks Barry Bonds’ home run record, no one will really care to celebrate with him, especially Major League Baseball.

Roger Clemens was a legend on the pitching mound. Even as he aged, Clemens seemed to become a better pitcher, instead of declining. The baseball world was amazed by his low ERA (earned run average) and hailed him as one of the greatest pitchers in MLB history. Today, no one believes in Clemens’ innocence. His records are not in jeopardy, but millions of youngsters who once looked up to Clemens are disappointed in the steroid allegations that surround him.

And Mark McGwire was fun to watch during the 1990s. At one point, he became so good that you expected him to hit a home run, if you did not walk him. As he waltzed in retirement in 2001, few believed that he would not be a first ballot Hall of Famer, until we learned that he had taken androstenedione and other alleged banned substances during his years on the baseball field.

During the earlier part of this decade, people wanted to ban former home run slugger, Jose Canseco from speaking out about rampant steroid use in Major League Baseball. Many of us believed Canseco was just trying to sell books. Unfortunately, Jose Canseco was right and we were wrong. MLB has become similar to rassling; everything has been fixed with a needle and a pill. Today, many of today’s MLB players’ greatness can be found in their garbage cans. Everyone should be afraid to put any baseball player, in the game today, on the pedestal that Hank Aaron and Willie Mayes deserve to be on.

Major League Baseball should release of the names of the remaining players that tested positive for steroids and other banned substances during this decade. The people demand to know who else cheated. As we flocked to the stands during the last two decades, we should have demanded a ticket discount for seeing cheaters play, instead of honorable athletes. MLB will lose more fans this year, and the advertising revenue will start to slip as companies become more leery of using baseball players in their ads.
