Quitting a job for another job is usually a tough decision. But, leaving a job to become a stay at home spouse can be a tremendous sacrifice.

Why Become a Stay at Home Spouse?

In any marriage, there will be difficult moments. As a result, some hard decisions will be made for the sake of your union. For example, one of the spouses may quit his or her job to stay at home with young children.

It is easy to become attached to your career, especially when you are moving up the corporate ladder. But, having children may cause you to rethink your priorities. Frequently, mothers or fathers of a child will take some time away from work to care for their newborn baby. In some cases, one of the spouses may decide to quit his or her job because the costs of childcare may cause a financial strain on the family. In other cases, a spouse may be unable to find a daycare service that he or she can trust with his or her baby.

How to Keep Your Business Skill Current?

There is a saying, "Use it or lose it." This a reason why putting your career on hold to care for your child can be tough! In many businesses, the culture, the work, and technology is changing on a weekly basis. If you are not in the workforce, then you some of your skills will diminish over time. Additionally, there are skills that you may not develop because of not being in the workforce. To combat this issue, some people decide to start a small business within their homes so that they can sharpen their business skills. While many individuals may not be able to devote forty hours per week on this business venture, any amount of time that you can work may preserve or add to your existing skill set. Who knows, one day you may decide to reenter the workforce as an employee? Not having blank years on your resume will show future potential employees that you attempted to improve your work skill set, even though you were at home taking care of your child.
