Why Math Skills are Critical?

Everything you will do in life centers around math.  But, you may not believe me, right now!

Regardless of your current or future profession, you must use math.  If you are self-employed, you probably set the prices of your company’s products and/or services as well as review your daily sales records.  Without having the required math skills to run a successful business, it is unlikely that you would be a thriving entrepreneur.  Even if you are not a business owner, your math skills are on display in the workplace and in your personal buying decisions.  As a consumer, you must decide which items to purchase for your home on a regular basis.  Sometimes you will only consider the quality and price of an item.  In other instances, you will analyze various sales by using your ability to understand price mark downs.  Your employer is always evaluating the quantitative skills of its employees, including you.  An employer will seek to place its employees in the best position for the company to make more money. If you have recently applied for a new job at a new company, you may have taken a math test as part of your application process, even for an entry level position.

Everyone must understand Algebra. In my opinion, this is the bare minimum for any job position, even if you are a stay at home parent.  Calculus, Geometry and Statistics are often necessary for high paying jobs, such as computer scientists, financial analysts, and primary physicians.  Even if you do not aspire for a high paying job, the importance of learning math cannot be overstated, for you may decide to change your career path in the near future or wish to educate your children and others about the importance of math.
