There is no law against improving your business skills. Remember, your career development is depended upon your efforts; therefore, you must not expect your company to guide you to the top of your profession.

In some companies, you could spend twenty years in the same position. This may not be good for your professional development or yearly salary. On the other hand, some people are content with their current salaries and job responsibilities. Remember, your job satisfaction adds or subtracts from your quality of life.

If you desire to gain more out of your career, you must be willing to take risks. On occasions, at work, you may have opportunities to take on special projects outside of your normal job responsibilities. Make sure that you take on some projects; otherwise you need not expect any promotions in the near term. Unfortunately, if you perform poorly on a project, you could be demoted or fired; however, this is a risk you must be willing to accept, especially if you want to become a corporate executive in the future.

Educating yourself is another way to set yourself apart from your peers. Become an expert of your local, state and worldwide industry, so that upper management understands that you are passionate about your career. Furthermore, make sure that you can perform and understand statistical analysis, because this ability can lead to more job responsibilities.

You are in control of your career. Therefore, no one can prevent you from becoming an expert in your field. A real understanding of statistics is important, if you want to do more in business. And lastly, do not be afraid to take on new challenges at work, unless you are satisfied with your current role.
