In business, you must have customer sales in order to survive. Otherwise, you can close the doors to the business tonight and never return. Therefore, your customers should be regarded as the backbone of your business. More importantly, not only do customers purchase products and services, but some tell their friends and family about your good products and services. On the other hand, if your products and services do not meet their expectation, they will likely bad mouth your company to their family, friends and co-workers.
Before you open your business, you should do some focus group testing. The members of the focus group need to be strangers to you. If not, there is no reason to have a focus group to review your products or sales pitch. In most cases, your family and friends will not give you a truthful answer. Therefore, the data gathered from the focused group is important. It will determine if your product and services are ready for the general public.
Even after your business is opened, you will need to deal with customer complaints ranging from slow processing time to defective products. In order to combat customer service issues, you will need to have a written procedure for employees to follow. The procedure must list the chain of command to follow and the circumstances in which a refund is warranted. Every employee in the company needs to be familiar with the customer complaint procedure.
Since making sales is a major part of your company’s profits, your marketing and sales force must work together. The marketing department must create sales material that the sales force uses to better position the company’s products in the marketplace. The sales force must get in front of other businesses and individuals that need your products.
Take care of your customers. These customers reward you by buying and using your products. Therefore, you must never take them for granted. If a customer complaint occurs, you must be proactive and solve the customer’s concern in a timely manner. Otherwise, you could damage the credibility of your business.
