How to Learn More about Your Customer Base?

In business, we all have customers. These individuals or companies are the reason why we arrive at the office daily with a smile or roll out of bed to read company e-mails and answer customer inquires. But, who are these people that we call customers, and why do they choose our products and services?

Without an inflow of customers, the average business will fold once the cash flow in does not match or exceed the cash flow out. Therefore, businesses must attempt to maximize the value of each and every customer. However to do so, businesses should develop marketing campaigns towards individuals and businesses that are more likely to need their product and services.

But before you start spending more money on marketing, especially if your business is relatively unknown, take some time to get to know the people or businesses that currently use your products or services. For instance, you can leave customer surveys at the front entrance of your restaurants or stores. This gives your customers the opportunity to tell you what they like or dislike about your products or services and allows them to voice their opinions about company changes or new products they would like to see. In addition, you can start a customer hotline for individuals to call concerning their customer experience or to offer suggestions, but the number should be a toll-free number if you do a lot of business outside of the local area.

Remember it is important to collect customer data; however, you should be mindful of the privacy laws, both local and national. Protect the rights of your customers! Still, some customers want to be contacted when a new product is offered or there is a special sale at your store. An easy way to contact these individuals is via e-mail. As a result, the power of the opt-in-email should not be underestimated. This is a great opportunity for you to have additional contact with past customers who might turn into repeat customers. Besides, some of the great ideas in business history have come from customers’ letters or phone calls; so, you always need to keep the line of communication opened with your customers.
