Insurance Agents: Time to Embrace Technology

Some veteran insurance agents grumble about this new age of technology. Who needs a Twitter or Facebook account? Why do you need to create a blog? Unfortunately, if you desire to attract new, sophisticated clients, you must accept their lifestyles in this new millennium.

As you walk the streets of any busy city, you will see people using cell phones to talk or to text. Other individuals will be using their Zune or iPod to listen to music or to news. Do not let these individuals upset you. Instead, discover new ways to market your insurance and financial planning services to these people.

Insurance agents and financial planners must embrace new technology. For one, you, as a financial or insurance professional, have the opportunity to reach a larger audience because of the internet. As a result, marketing your financial service business is no longer limited to billboards, cold calling, canvassing, or mailings. In your spare time, create a Facebook and/or Twitter account within 5 minutes to attract new insurance or financial planning prospects. Post a video of your financial seminars on a free blog offered by Blogger.com or Wordpress.com. You may also use YouTube to post videos about your insurance products or services.

It is unfortunate that some insurance agents and financial planners have chosen not to use Facebook, Twitter or YouTube because they do not understand the value of the social networks. However, you can use Facebook and Twitter to provide links to your blog articles. Remember, blogs are a great communication tool, for blogs allow you and your online visitors to comment on blog posts. Become familiar with other free social network websites to submit your blog posts, for example, Digg.com or Newsvine.com. Add Atom or RSS feeds to your blogs so that you can reach an even larger internet audience.

If you learn to effectively use social networks such as Facebook or Twitter, then you will create a larger audience for your business. Additionally, you can register your financial service business on Facebook, Twitter or YouTube for free. Therefore, you are only required to invest your time in order to help your business grow.
