A Job Career Going Nowhere?

For some individuals, going to work in the morning is more of a punishment than a rewarding experience. Because of this reason, many of us are not as productive in the workplace as we should be. The stress of a job can be overwhelming, as you struggle to get through each day, at a place and or in a position that does not bring personal satisfaction.

Do You Feel Trapped in a New Job Position?

Sometimes, people take a new job strictly to increase their cash flow or to gain more experience in a chosen field. Unfortunately, this does not guarantee happiness in a job position. Not only could the job make you miserable, you might lose your job if you cannot perform at a competent level. Most people will tell you that it is hard to function in a job that they do not want to go to. Even if you do your best, your attitude and the overwhelming pressures of the job may prove to be too much. Therefore, all of your company awards and yearly reviews will appear to be meaningless when and if you are fired from your current position.

I Cannot Get Ahead

On the other hand, some individuals do not get promoted. They might seem like a good fit for a management position but lack an education requirement (e.g. PhD or MBA) or a year or two in job experience to be considered for the position. This can be extremely frustrating for someone who wants to remain loyal to his or her company. After a few more years, it is not uncommon for these individuals to become cynical and decrease their level of productivity. This could result in disciplinary action levied against an individual, ranging from a job demotion to a pink slip.

What to Do?

You can always find another job. However, you do not want to be labeled as a job hopper. You should attempt to stay with a company for at least one year; otherwise, you could be headed for a decrease in salary if you work for another company before completing one year with your current employer. Another option is to get more education. In many instances, people are passed over for a job position, because they are not expected to have the business skills and knowledge that a MBA, CPA, or JD graduate should possess. No wonder why I plan to go back to school next year!
