Don’t Leave Home Without Travel Insurance

It is 5:00 am and your flight will leave in three hours. Due to increase security at our national airports, you will be leaving your home or office within the next hour. You will likely double check your luggage and make sure the dog is walked, before you shut your door. Have you forgot something? Maybe you thought about buying travel insurance for this business trip to Eastern Europe? However, you were in a rush and forgot to purchase travel insurance.

From personal experience or through “word of mouth,” not every trip goes as planned. Sometimes a trip is cancelled due to an unforeseen hospitalization or your luggage might be lost while traveling from one airport to another. There are also traveling delays that can occur. Other travelers on your trip may have bought travel insurance, in order for their travel insurance carrier to indemnify them, if one of these unforeseen incidents were to occur. On the other hand, if you have experienced a trip delay or lost luggage in the past, you probably understand the need for travel insurance.

You can buy travel insurance from several distributors. For one, some day-to-day insurance agents actually sell travel insurance. In other cases, people can buy coverage from an insurance licensed, travel agent or purchase a limited policy in the airport terminals, in most cases. Lastly, individuals or group travelers are turning to the internet to find travel insurance. There are several websites that offer information about travel insurance coverage, provide free quotes, and allow insurance consumers to buy travel insurance online.

Be aware that you are taking a chance by leaving home without purchasing travel insurance. An accident that causes your death or dismemberment can occur on a “common carrier.” Additionally, you could lose your luggage or need to cancel the trip, in order to make funeral arrangements for a close family member, for example, your parent or spouse.
