Baseball's All-Star Game Has Meaning

By: Jason Cunningham (7-11-2006)

Once a upon a time, Major League baseball players viewed a trip to the All-Star Game as simply a reward for playing well. Now, the game is much more important than ever before. The side that wins the All-Star guarantees their respective league champion will have  home field advantage in the World Series.

Major League Baseball definitely has made the All-Star Game more exciting.  A coaching staff will not be taking a break until the very last out. The importance of home field advantage in the World Series is too good to pass on. Each player has a responsibility to his fellow All-Star teammates and individual team to win the game. You win the All-Star Game, and your team has home field advantage in the World Series, if they get there.

I wish other sports such as basketball and football would follow baseball, in putting greater importance on their All-Star Games. For once, Baseball Commissioner Bud Selig has something to gloat about. Play ball.
