Cleveland Browns' Jeff Garcia Woes
By: Jason Cunningham (09/23/2004)
Last week I watched Cleveland Browns' QB Jeff Garcia play in
disgust. He should never attempt to repeat his performance against the Dallas
Cowboys last Sunday in Dallas.
The Cleveland Browns ended up with a 19-12 loss to the Cowboys.
Jeff Garcia managed to complete 8 passes for just 71 yards. It had to be
embarrassing missing a sure touchdown pass to Browns' Quincy Morgan in the first
quarter. Garcia also threw three interceptions, no touchdowns, and never looked
to be in the game. He looked worse than a rookie starting his first game in the
NFL.
Browns' Coach Butch Davis never showed any indication during
Sunday's loss that he might yank Garcia for backup QB Kelly Holcomb. This
may have angered some Browns' fans. Cleary, Davis needs to make the playoffs to
keep his job, at least let's hope he realizes this point. Yet I hope Garcia can
get his act together, and lead the Browns to victory over the NY Giants this
weekend. Nobody needs to motivate the veteran QB this week, it falls squarely on
his shoulders.
