Butch Davis Quarterback Dilemma
By: Jason Cunningham (11/16/2004)
The coach of the Cleveland Browns, Butch Davis must be pulling his hair out by
now. Fans in Cleveland are calling for the benching of quarterback Jeff Garcia.
I must agree with them, while Garcia has the heart of the champion, he is not
getting the job done on the football field. The Browns have lost several games
this year, because of the momentum that was caused by errant throws by Garcia.
Over the past four seasons, Browns Coach Butch Davis has proven that he rarely
wavers. He has stuck by Garcia this season, even in games where the starting
quarterback did not even bring his D Game. When Davis put back up quarterback Kelly Holcomb in the Browns recent game
versus the Pittsburg Steelers, the offense moved the ball right down the field
and scored. Look Butch you can keep Garcia in there, but realize you will be
fired at the end of the season.
The fact that I am calling the quarterback
situation a dilemma for Coach Davis to reconcile, makes you wonder if he is
nothing more than it has to be my idea type of coach. Put Holcomb in the game,
the leech for Jeff Garcia should not extend beyond a quarter. Also why have the
Browns got rid of all of their good receivers since Davis has been the coach?
