Calling on Congress to Lower Gas Prices!
By Jason Cunningham (4/6/2005)
I congratulate our Congress for having swift
hearings on the steroids issue in baseball and the Terri Schiavo case. Now it is
time to get to an issue that has an impact on all of us, and that is the
ever rising price of gasoline. At this time, the average price of unleaded gas
is more than $2.00 a gallon in the United States.
Just the other day I spent $2.37 for a gallon
of unleaded gas. Last year, when the price of gasoline started to spike, some
economist concluded that people and the economy will be able to endure. I dare
say not many of them would go on public record and utter those words now, or
risk getting a 1000 e-mails of negative feedback within minutes.
This is something that Democrats,
Republicans, and all others can agree upon, when we go to the gas pump, it
hurts, and in many of our cases, has become a drain on our finances. In a
year's time, gas prices have increased an average of 15%, and it will probably
get worse. So it may be in our best interest to start e-mailing and writing
Congress until they decide to take action. We do not need empty promises, but
quick action that proves that the power is truly in the hands of the people. Get
these gas prices down to $1.50 a gallon. It is unfortunate that protesting is
sometimes the only way to get your message heard, but if necessary so be it!
