Can You Be Happy Single?
By Jason Cunningham (12/15/05)
A few people have asked me, "Can you be
happy single?" I guess some people think yours truly might be an expert in the
subject. Well anyway, happiness is a state of mind, so anything is possible.
If you cornered me with the
question at age 18, the answer would have been no. Then again, what did I really
know about relationships at that age? Some people make their dating relationships into a sort of rite of
passage; it is as if your father is passing down the family bowling bowl or
something. On the other hand, as a single person, you really do not have to
worry about the pressure of trying to live up to someone else's expectations.
I think once you get over the initial
90 days, or the probationary period of being single; you can breathe a little
easier. So what do you do in your free time? Do whatever you like! Remember
this Christmas, you can spend or save a little more on yourself. Being single is
a blessing if you can handle it. It gives a male or female an opportunity to
learn more about themselves, and find out what they do and do not want out their
next dating relationship.
No, I am not an expert in being
single. I just have a Bachelor degree in Psychology and Classical Civilization. However, I do know what is like
to be single. There is no shame in my life, regarding this subject. When it
comes to trying to advance in this world, there will be nothing holding me back.
One thing about being single, no one can tell you where you should be, upon
leaving the confines of the workplace.
A single life does not mean a lonely
existence. You can be happy regardless of whether you are dating. If you are
single, it is probably for the best; otherwise you might be with someone you need
not know, and miss out on the person of your dreams.
