Before I get any hate e-mail, the title of this article addresses a fundamental problem in some Churches in America, in my opinion. Therefore I do not support ministers who are against a woman's right to wear pants to worship. This is not a new issue, however it is the first I ever devoted so much time on this website to discuss the matter.

I could go and on about the mistreatment of women, today in the American Church. Not all Churches engage in this primitive thinking whereas women must take a backseat in the pews, while the men set all of the rules. One rule that seems ludicrous to me is why women must wear a skirt to Church, in some denominations, and specific places of worship? On many occasions, I have personally challenged those who attend these Churches, both women and men to come up with a reasonable explanation to my question. Yet to date, I have not received a sufficient answer based on any Biblical teaching.

Call me a progressive thinker, also liberal in many ways, but this is an important issue to me. I think by telling women they must wear a skirt to Church, not only reinforces the societal differences between women and men, but is an act of dominance by the men in power of these Churches. When it is cold outside, are you not moved by the bone-chilling looks on the faces of some young and old females as they walk from the frigid weather into the sanctuary? Maybe a minister is so caught up in tradition, that he forgets about a sense of fairness, and opts for a position of not rocking the boat, when it concerns this issue. Nevertheless, I concede that some will disagree with me and my viewpoint on this matter, but why is the question?

In a time where people are leaving Church left and right, you think some male ministers would remove their chauvinist viewpoints to encourage more to worship. I am not making an indictment towards the majority of those; supposedly chosen by God to lead, but if this article is upsetting, then maybe it is referring to you. Women deserve to be comfortable at Church. It is not as if wearing a skirt is going to allow you to pray better or give you heaven points. This is about respecting women as equals, otherwise have a strict suit policy for men to enter Church!
