Cobra Insurance Alternative
When you lose your job, a major concern is
the need for major medical insurance. Cobra Insurance is one option, but there are more
healthcare plans available. When at all possible, it may be more affordable to
look at other options.
People are often turned off by the cost of
Cobra Insurance, and may go without health insurance until their next job.
Cobra allows an individual 60 days to decide whether to take coverage and
another 45 days to pay the first premium. Coverage under Cobra Insurance
generally lasts up to 18 months, however if disabled you should contact your
Social Security Administration. What if you have an accident or get seriously ill? Not having proper
healthcare can lead to a greater financial blow. This is an issue none of us
wish to face, however in the face of corporate layoffs and outsourcing; the
reality is greater than you think.
The Cobra alternative is simple. It is term
that refers to options you have to chose from, other than Cobra Insurance. You could apply
for Short Term Heath Insurance, if you want to look at a possible, more
affordable alternative. If you decide to become self-employed, then a regular major
medical plan should also be considered. If you are uninsurable for health insurance,
consider a healthcare savings plan if Cobra payments will leave you possibly
homeless.
Remember there are more healthcare options,
other than Cobra Insurance. If you are not insurable, but can afford Cobra, by no means
turn it down. Contact your insurance agent or financial planner to discuss Cobra
Insurance. If your main concern is getting some coverage, in the
meantime, please take a look at
Cobra Alternatives.
