Congratulations to MSU's Coach Ann Gilbert
By Jason Cunningham (4/4/05)
Tomorrow's NCAA Women's Championship held in Indianapolis,
IN, will feature the ladies of Michigan State University versus Baylor
University. More importantly, Ann Gilbert, assistant coach of Michigan State
University will be coaching for the team that messed up my brackets. However, it
is okay, because she deserves it.
Ann Gilbert was a former Kodak All-America in two seasons at Oberlin College.
She also was awarded
Champion USA Division III Player of the Year her senior year in college, and let
me say that it will take all night for me to name all of her achievements as a
player. I first met her in the spring of 1995, while a football and track
recruit for Oberlin College, which is also my alma mater. You could always tell
that basketball was her passion, and she displayed this firmly in her eight
seasons of being the head coach of Oberlin's women basketball team. It was a sad
day for the college when she stepped down in 2002, and moved on to Michigan
State University, but everyone knew great things were on the horizon.
Ann was always my first pick in noon basketball in the summer, because was a
great competitor, and could always hit the three when the game was on the line.
So tomorrow, Coach Gilbert, as I used to call her, win that National
Championship over Baylor University. Go Lady Spartans!
