Debt and Credit
By: Jason Cunningham
This is a the debate for all ages. It
does not seem reasonable to go into debt just to establish credit? There is no reward for never
having debt.
The day you learned you needed to experience
debt, to get a loan to make a major purchase such as a home, you
probably scratched your head. It does not make sense. If learning that
Santa Claus or the Tooth Fairy bothered you, then this should keep up at least
one night. You want me to go into debt to prove I can pay it off, so I can get a
bigger loan! Precisely, those with students loans may be the rare exception to
the rule. Sometimes, even with student loans, you may need a
co-signer, your parent or legal guardian .
Should we be rewarding those who never use
credit, instead of those who pay in cash for everything; more so, than a
person who pays twice than minimum on a credit card that has $5000 left on the balance?
However this is not how our credit system works. Go get a credit card, run up some balance and keep paying the bill, only to find
out I can purchase a $150,000 home. We do not make the rules, but we live with
them.
