Did the Houston Texans Lose On
Purpose?
By: Jason Cunningham (1/02/2005)
I know that NFL players would
never throw a game, however the Houston Texans lost yesterday versus the San
Francisco 49ers was suspect. Why did the Houston Texans, who had nothing
to play for other than pride, bench starting QB David Carr, in favor of Tony
Banks?
In defense of the Houston Texans, they
were without the services of starting running back
Domanick Davis
and backup Jonathan Wells, because of season ending injuries. However you were
playing the San Francisco 49ers, and anybody can run the football against them.
If you don't believe me, then why did some guy for the Texans named Vernand
Morency
run for 83 yards on them yesterday.
The Houston Texans claim QB David Carr
and WR Andre Johnson were so injured in the game that they could not reenter the
game. I am not buying the story, and many others who follow sports are not
believing them as well. Now should the NFL look into this matter? I would say
no, because the Texans did defeat the Arizona Cardinals and Cleveland Browns
earlier this season. Honestly, Houston had no business winning one game this
season. They did not look any better behind firing offensive coordinator Chris
Palmer, after the second game of the NFL season.
Two plays in yesterday's game looked a
little shaky. The third quarter pass by veteran QB Tony Banks was a 40 yard
interception TD gift to the San Francisco 49ers. Then in the fourth
quarter, Texans' kicker Kris Brown missed a chip shot, 31 yard field. Did anyone
really believe Brown was not trying to push that field goal attempt wide right?
In overtime, the great Tony Banks threw another costly interception, which
eventually led to the 49ers game winning field goal.
The Houston Texans probably celebrated
their loss with great joy. They now have the first pick in the upcoming NFL
Draft, and it will be USC's RB Reggie Bush. This could be the first year the
Houston Texans fail to have a bad draft?
