Ending a Relationship on Good Terms
By Jason Cunningham (4/6/2005)
Sometimes we allow our emotions to get the
best of us. When it comes to ending a dating relationship, many of us are not
immune to saying or doing things that hurt the other person's feelings. In a
good and ideal world, when we end a relationship, it should be on good terms.
It may be selfish, but ending a relationship
on good terms helps you feel better, in some strange way. You may be hurting on
the inside, but will conclude the experience was not a complete waste of your
time. This is important for good self-esteem, and can prevent you from going
into your next relationship with expectations of gloom and doom.
For those who believe in fate, maybe you two
will get back together in the future. Do not keep your hopes up, however from
time to time it happens. So end that relationship on a positive note. Maybe the
two of you were trying to establish your careers, or in transition, because of
college, nevertheless we should still try to walk away in a mature manner, even
if there is no chance of the two of you ever dating again.
