I Need Space

By Jason Cunningham (3/17/2005)

There are words you never want to hear in a relationship that means something to you. Those dreadful words that scorn any heart are "I need space." In actuality, the first time I heard those words; I just did not get it until someone else explained it to me.

To me, the words  "I need space" is the same as saying I like you, but there is someone else who has caught my eye. If this analysis is correct, then you exit the scene right there, without saying an angry word to the person breaking up with you. The party is over, you have to accept that other person for whatever reason, sees something in you that is not as appealing as their new interest.

Honestly, saying "I need space" is sort of a cowardly way out of a relationship. The reason I say this is because it leaves the door open, but only if the new interest does not work out, and the dumped individual keeps hope alive. In most cases, the person dumped should go on with their life, and continue to date others, because if it takes a jealous heart for the dumper to take you back, then maybe you better invest in some tissue.

I know that this article is a bit harsh, however most break ups end this way. I hope that people can take away from my words; that it is usually more about the dumper than you, when they say to you, "I need space." Always hold your head high in dignity, and never let a breakup destroy your life. It is not worth it.
