If I was Rich
By: Jason Cunningham (5/10/2005)
I often ponder over the question, "if I was rich____" I
would do what? Not that having a lot of money is a driving force in my life,
because it is actually quite low on the list. However you can learn a lot about
a person from the question. Today we will examine me, and I'll let you come to
your own conclusion.
First of all I would not upgrade my car, or start buying a fleet
of them. My uncle Reverend Joe Barlow of Ecorse, MI once told me, "you can
only drive one car at a time." I agree with wholeheartedly on his point.
You would never know whether I have money or not, unless fame comes this way and
you automatically assume it to be true. I don't wear fancy clothes, or enjoy
expensive things things that I cannot pay for with cash. There is not a desire
for me impress people or have beautiful woman like me because of my money.
Now I would buy a nice home and have a basketball court. Also I
would like to use my money to have enough influence to speak on Capital Hill and
with other political leaders around the globe. We are talking about the issues I
often talk about on this website, whether it be improving the lives of others
living in poverty, world peace, or retirement. I would establish a scholarship
for minorities at VASJ High School and Oberlin College, which I attended and
graduated from both institutions. In the Bible it says, "money is the root of
all," well I would at least try to prove it is not true in my case.
As I ponder over that state of being rich, I remind myself of
how much work needs to be done in this world. We can choose to be selfish with
our time, talents, and of course money, or help create a better society, in
which could be achieved, in spite of all of the world's chaos.
