Jerry Rice Catch Streak ends at 274 Games

By: Jason Cunningham (09/20/2004)

It is still hard to believe that Jerry Rice of the Oakland Raiders, arguably the greatest receiver of all time did not catch a pass, yesterday against the Buffalo Bills. The last time Rice did not have at least one reception in a NFL Game, I was nine years old.

The straight game reception of Jerry Rice was supposed to end with his retirement. It symbolized his commitment to physical fitness and game readiness. One thing is for sure,  if anyone is able to break this record, God bless them. You have to play a little less than 18 straights seasons with a reception in each game to break Jerry Rice's record.

My heart goes out to Jerry Rice this season. I believe he is still capable of producing a 1000 yard receiving season. However, he is being pushed out the door just like his former teammate, Tim Brown. While, Rice has been nothing less than a gentleman since he entered the NFL in 1985. People should realize that the league will suffer a great loss when he decides to retire. I am not counting Jerry Rice out, the San Francisco 49ers thought he was finished in 2000, and all he did was put up two straight 1000 yard seasons with the Oakland Raiders.
