Maurice Clarett: In Trouble Again
By: Jason Cunningham (8/9/2006)
At one time, I thought former Ohio
State University running back Maurice Clarett would win the Heisman trophy, and
be a first round draft pick in the NFL Draft. Unfortunately, since Clarett's
freshman year in 2002, his life has been anything but a track to NFL stardom.
Today, he was arrested on weapons charges and given a traffic ticket.
There is no telling what
Clarett was about to do with four powerful, loaded weapons in his front seat,
while wearing a bullet proof vest. Fortunately, Maurice Clarett was caught by
the law before he could harm himself or someone else. This is just latest saga
in the life of Maurice Clarett, who I once called the best freshman
running back on earth.
Maurice Clarett had the
talent to be a NFL great. Over the last three years, he has been making bad
decisions that has led to him being arrested, thrown out of college, and cut
from the NFL's Denver Broncos. It is sad to see this young man fall. Clarett
probably does some great things in the community, but the arrests overshadow the
good.
I fear that Maurice Clarett
is going to do some hard timed for his latest arrest. This might be the end of
his NFL hopes of playing on Sunday. Hopefully, this will be Clarett's last
negative experience with the law.
