The Maurice Clarett's Saga Continues

 By: Jason Cunningham (3/03/2005)

At last week's combines in Indianapolis, IN, former OSU running back, Maurice Clarett had his opportunity to impress NFL scouts. Just two years ago, he helped lead his college team to the BCS National Championship.  However that was the last time Clarett played in a organized football game.

Maurice looked great on TV, he was smiling leading up to his workouts in Indianapolis. Yet he only managed to run a best of 4.72 in the 40 yard dash. That is not fast for a running back, even some fullbacks and DE have that kind of speed. Clarett may have disappointed some NFL scouts by not running again after posting a 4.72, and maybe a 4.82 in the 40.

Personally I do not believe he has a quitter's mentality. Obviously he has some heart, otherwise OSU would not have won the National Championship, a few years ago. He will not be a draft pick before the sixth round, however if Clarett can avoid injury in the NFL, still I believe that he should have a decent pro career. Even if his 40 yd time  was a disappointment, he showed a more humble side of himself  to the media, leading up to the NFL Combines. I still hope this young man can get his life together, and prove those against him wrong on the football field.
