The Need for a Doctor
By: Jason Cunningham
People need to have an
established relationship with a doctor. Many people find their doctor from
referral from others. Choosing a primary physician can lead to a healthier life.
The U.S. has many good
doctors. There are enough to choose a primary physician from the pool of
available doctors in your area. Often people choose a doctor based on a
recommendation from their doctor or co-worker. You may trust your associate or
friends opinion. Therefore many people end up selecting the physician, they are
referred to, unless they are not taking more patients.
Building a repertoire with
your chosen physician is important. You need to have confidence in revealing
information to doctor that is private. This is where the trust between you and
your physician must be molded. Your doctor must believe you are willing to tell
you them what is wrong. You must believe he or she will keep your medical
information private and do what is in your best interest.
It is important to have a
primary doctor for other reasons. A doctor who knows your medical history is
more inclined to refer you to the right specialist. Also, your primary physician
will know how to deal with your colds and similar illnesses, or perhaps be able
to know when a more serious problem exists, based on their experience with you.
