Everyone by now is aware that Miami Dolphin's star, Ricky Williams has retired from the NFL. This seems to be another chapter in the life of the misunderstood young man. The Dolphins have to be shocked and disappointed by the revelation.

Some in the media are trying to spin this story by insinuating that Ricky Williams may have retired from football because of failing his third NFL drug test. Given Ricky Williams period of strange behavior including wearing a football helmet and apparent shyness, may be a much deeper problem that he is dealing with. Instead of criticizing him for a lack of commitment to the Miami Dolphin's football team, we should hope that he can overcome whatever ails him.

Getting away from football for a year may bring him back if that is what Ricky Williams wants. I took a year off in college and was a much better player because of it. We are not privileged to know what is going on in his personal life. NFL superstar, Ricky Williams may be grieving over a sick family member or friend, or is recovering from an injury. Despite any reactions that are coming from the Miami Dolphins' organization, including the front office, coaching staff, or players, only Ricky can truly let us into what has driven him from the gridiron. It could be, that Ricky Williams has found another passion that interests him more than football!
