The Pacers  Send the Celtics Packing

By Jason Cunningham (5/08/05)

Game seven of the Indianapolis Pacers and Boston Celtics presented opportunity for both teams. It was already known that the winner of the deciding game would play the defending NBA Champions Detroit Pistons in the Eastern Conference Championship. Also, if the Pacers could win the game, then Reggie Miller would be insured at least two more home games at Conseco Fieldhouse, before he retires at season's end. Otherwise, Boston's forward Antoine Walker would prove to be a soothsayer, from his remarks about "closing the Fieldhouse and sending Reggie Miller into retirement."

Well the game proved one thing, the Pacers were the better team. The final score of 97-70, in favor of the Indianapolis Pacers does not tell the full story. Boston as a team only shot 37% from the field. Also, they were outscored 62-38 in the second half on game seven.

Everyone should have known the Pacers would send the Celtics packing, because the road team in this series had the upper hand in the games. It is only fittingly that the Pacers get a crack at the Detroit, who they brawled with on November 18, seemed to leave the future of Indianapolis team in doubt, including a season suspension of All-Star Ron Artest. My prediction: Pacers win the series in 6 games against the Pistons.
