Penn State is For Real!

By: Jason Cunningham (10/09/2005)

I did not give much credence to Penn State University having a elite football team until yesterday.  After Michigan lost to the Minnesota Gophers for the first time in 13 years, the little hairs on my head began to stand up. I knew that at the moment that Penn State's stumping of the Gophers the previous weekend was legitimated.  Something told me The Ohio State Buckeyes were going to be in for a prime time battle with the Nittany Lions of Penn State.

Well many critics, including myself, concluded that legendary coach of the Penn State football team, Joe Paterno should have retired after last season. Let's face it, the Nittany Lions have not exactly been the royalty of the Big Ten in recent years. This year it appears that once again Coach Paterno may have something special in State College, Pennsylvania. The 6-0 record is legitimate after their defeat of the Ohio State University Buckeyes 17-10. There is no more doubt about whether the seventy-eight year old, Joe Paterno is embarrassing himself by hanging on, clearly this is not the case. Penn State is currently ranked number eight in the country, but in my opinion they probably should be in the top 5. No more questions need to be answered, the Nittany Lions are for real.
