The San Antonio Spurs,
2004-2005 NBA Champions
By: Jason Cunningham (6/23/2005)
Game 7 of the 2004-2005 NBA season proved to be
vindication for the San Antonio Spurs. Leading up to the game, many doubters
from sports radio to the average person on the street, believed the Detroit
Pistons would win the game, because they appeared to be the tougher team in the
series.
It was a thrilling game all the way down the wire.
In the end the Spurs were victorious, winning Game 7 of the NBA Finals by a
score if 81-74 over the Detroit Pistons. The Spurs were paced by the series MVP
Tim Duncan who scored 25 points and grabbed 11 rebounds. Also, the playoff
legacy of Spurs' Robert Horry continues to grow. It was the 6th NBA Championship
Horry has won and without his play Detroit probably would have won. He
scored 15 points, including hit 2 big three pointers in the game, captured 5
rebounds and a block shot. Manu Ginobili who had disappeared at times in the NBA
Finals, added 23 points for the Spurs.
Duncan willed his team to victory. He showed his
mental toughness every time the Pistons attempted to run away with the game.
Anyone who questions his place in NBA history does not appreciate the greatness
of Spurs' Tim Duncan. He put it on the line and now has won his third NBA
Championship in seven years.
