Should Knicks Antonio Davis Be
Suspended for 5 Games?
By: Jason Cunningham (1/20/2006)
At first, I wondered why NY Knicks
Antonio Davis was going into the stand. Once it became apparent that he was
coming to the aid of his wife, the act did not seem so bad. Davis did not throw
a punch or even try to escalate the matter.
The NBA has to suspend Davis because he
went into the stand. Let's face it, the league does not want to look like
hypocrites, because it fails to enforce the rule. The rule was put into place to
prevent brawl at Auburn Hills, in which some Indianapolis Pacers' players fought
Detroit Piston's fans.
I do not think Antonio Davis' actions
warrant a five game suspension. A two game suspension probably is the right
amount. He did not seem to threaten the man once he leaped into the stands, and
Antonio did not attempt to start a fight. Antonio Davis' wife, Kendra and
Michael Axelrod, the fan in the middle of this controversy, should be suspended
from five NBA games. Antonio should not be worried about lawsuits or a
suspension right now. Both of their actions has Antonio Davis in hot water with
the NBA.
It is sad that people in our society
cannot act civilized. Money does not guarantee people will treat one another
with respect. All parties in this situation are culpable for their actions.
Hopefully, the NBA rethinks about security for families attending their
basketball games.
