Sports & Steroid Cheaters
By: Jason Cunningham (5/31/2005)
Any person who has ever played sports should
have been offended when some members of Congress implied that students use
steroids, because the athletes they idolize may use them. The whole steroid
hearing with Major League baseball, lacked both substance and merit. The
center of the steroid issue should be about those who cheat. As much education
about anabolic steroids that the average athlete gets in their teens and into
college, everyone should be afraid of them. However some use their desire to win
as a crutch for breaking the rules.
People and Congress need to stop acting if children
are stupid. Kids may try to play basketball like Mike, but if an athlete goes to
jail, you do not see every high school athlete trying to follow suit. Steroids
use is no different from this example. Some individuals are always trying to cut
corners. If you believe that banning people from sports will limit steroid use,
then you are mistaken. Some of those who do not get caught have already moved
unto another designer drug. Professional sports is making more money in
one year, than the average person makes in a lifetime. That
is why steroid use is tempting whether you are in high school, college, or the
pros. It is not about your role models, but about greed.
