The Spurs Stomp the Pistons in
Game 1
By: Jason Cunningham (6/10/2005)
When the Detroit Pistons started Game 1 of the NBA Finals
with a 17-4 lead in the first quarter versus the San Antonio Spurs, a lump sat
still in my heart. I predicted the Spurs will win the series in seven games, but
the beginning of the game did not look promising for them. However by the end,
the Spurs were victorious, winning the game 84-69.
Detroit's loss was the largest margin of defeat by a
defending NBA Champion in Game 1 history. The Pistons ran out of gas, and their
guards became jump shooters, instead of driving to the rim and finding one
of the Wallaces for a easy bucket. Outside of Pistons Chauncey Billups 25 points
in the game, no one else on the team seem to have any offensive rhythm. The
Pistons only scored 32 points in the second half, and in the fourth quarter,
Spurs Manu Ginobili put up 15 points to their 18.
Spurs Tim Duncan's 24 points and 17 rebounds sealed the
deal for the victory. The Pistons had no answer, and they were embarrassed.
See you in Game 2 on Sunday night.
