Thoughts About Rangers' Kenny Rogers: After the All-Star Game

By: Jason Cunningham (7/14/2005)

I must say there is definitely something that MLB and NBA differ on, and that is how to discipline their players for actions that are harmful to the sport. Yes, Kenny Rogers was booed vehemently at Tuesday's, MLB All-Star Game, but he was allowed to play. Baseball has suspended the Texas Rangers' Rogers for 20 games, because in pre-game a few weeks back, he pushed two cameraman, shoving one to the ground, and throwing and kicking the man's camera.

When Indiana Pacers' Ron Artest was suspended for the season for going into the stand after a Detroit Pistons' fan hit him with a beer, as he laid on the scorer's table; just minutes after being choked by Detroit's Ben Wallace. There was a public outcry against the All-Star Artest, and lot of folks thought he should be banned from the game of basketball for life.

Many believe Kenny Rogers should not have played in MLB Mid-Season Classic, but no one is really calling for him to suspended for the rest of the season. Rogers attacked defenseless people, cameramen who were not looking for a fight. Artest went after the person in the crowd he thought wanted a fight. Yell me why America does not want the same justice in Roger's case, as they asked for Ron Artest.
