Utah's Andrew Bogut, No
Surprise as Number One Pick
By: Jason Cunningham (6/29/2005)
It was an easy choice for the Milwaukee Bucks, when
they selected Utah's Andrew Bogut number one overall in the 2005 NBA Draft.
While Bogut may not prove to be the best player in the draft, he will be far
from a bust.
After watching Bogut play in the Olympics in 2004, I
am convinced he will be a solid NBA player. He averaged 20 points and 12
rebounds in his sophomore year in college, before entering this year's draft. He
is far from slow, and moves and acts like a power forward. Bogut reminds me a
taller version of Keith Van Horn before the injuries. Andrew has a decent
jumper, and will be a defensive stopper before he truly develops his offensive
game in the NBA.
While history will tell us Bogut is not the best
player in the draft, the Bucks will get a pat on the back for the selection. As
long as he can stay healthy, he will probably be a 16 points a game, 9 rebounds
player, throughout his career. It may take Bogut three years before he plays in
an All-Star Game.
