When You Really Like Your
Friend!
By: Jason Cunningham (11/10/2005)
Life can present many challenges,
however when you like your friend, which you are not dating, this may lead to a
strain on the relationship. When we become a friend to someone of the opposite
sex, often we develop deeper feelings and emotions towards that person. This
does not mean we will fall in love with this person, but their significance in
our lives is sometimes stronger than members of our own family.
One of the big roadblock between men
and women being friends is their significant others taking issue with the friend
of the opposite sex. You might genuinely care about friend, but their
boyfriend or girlfriend may not be so understanding. Yet when your feelings
change from concern and more about liking and falling in love, sometimes it is
hard to be a good friend. However if you really value the friendship, then
you are in the relationship for the long haul, regardless of your feelings
towards him or her.
It is much easier to like your friend
if he or she is not dating someone else. Those feelings of jealousy and envy are
not realized, therefore you feel at ease being around your friend. The
ball is in your court whether you wish to ask your friend to take the
relationship to the next level. It may be a risk that you are willing to take,
but always remember that your friendship comes first, otherwise you might
experience a brief love affair.
Some of you probably wonder if I have
experience in this area. Well we all do, but this should not alarm anyone above
the age of 15. Liking people is a part of life. Yes, you are more likely
to develop romantic feelings toward a friend than a complete stranger,
especially when you spend time with them. Always remember to be honest with your
friend if you wish to remain on those terms even after you tell them how you
feel about him or her.
