Why American Is Not Ready for
a Religious War?
By: Jason Cunningham (12/06/2005)
I could not believe that yesterday
this topic came up in one of my discussions. Wake up people we have not come
close to winning the war on drugs. Maybe I am not living in reality, but aren't
the streets getting more dangerous in America, regardless of the murder rate
being down. I don't care what anyone says, America is not ready for a religious
war against so-called Islamic fundamentalists!
First of all, some Americans do not
fights the drugs or poverty in their own neighborhoods. Tell me what is going to
inspire you to fight against those who might want to harm individuals on our
soil, in the name of religion? I enjoy the lip service, however let's be
realistic. So if you are not willing to attempt to cause change at a basic
level, then do not go to the airwaves trying to sound like a religious zealot,
and run and hide when trouble is headed our way.
There is an inherent reason not to let
the Religious Right take over America. Everyday from Rush Limbaugh and other
conservative talk hosts, you hear the message that some how liberals are
inspiring terrorist acts against American interests throughout the world. Could
their so-called stateside religious statehood trying to be created by the Bush
Administration be seen as a Christian Crusade against the Islamic World? Is that
not a fair question given the success of Bush's faith based initiatives geared
toward social-conservative Churches to aid some of the countries' less
fortunate, and the conservative moment highlighted by President Bush's
re-election in 2004 and the blockbuster hit, Mel Gibson's Passion of
Christ. Perception and image is everything according to some of us!
America cannot afford to fight a
religious war. The people of this country are not fighters outside the
standing military and maybe gang members. Supporting military action and being
an active participant in it are entirely different, and I do not need to bear
arms to know the difference. It is one thing to engage in a so-called
culture war with one another in this country, yet there is no need to promote
Armageddon. Some of us are more concerned with the Book of Revelation of
the Bible being proven true than staying alive and making the world a
more peaceful place. No one needs a religious war in our precious world,
otherwise there will be unwanted consequences for all involved, in my opinion.
If you are going to stand for religion let it be for peace instead of
bloodstains in the name of God!
