Why Can a Instant Replay
Challenge Cause You a Timeout?

I think the NFL should rethink their
timeout policy, in regards to instant replay challenges. Basically your team
loses a timeout if replay does not agree with you, therefore reversing the call
on the field of play. It seems unfair to penalize a team with the loss of a
timeout, especially when you cannot be sure that replay is always 100% correct.
I think instant replay is a great
thing. Each team is limited to two challenges per ball game, and under two
minutes at the end of each half, replay must be initiated by the instant replay
booth. My beef with instant replay is why do you give up a timeout if instant
replay rules against your challenge. Is there any guarantee that the referee who
makes the final decision will never error? We all know the answer to the
question is no! Therefore since a team may only question two calls per game, why
not just let them protest the plays without the possibility of losing a needed
timeout. Unless you are saying that getting the play right is not the goal of
instant replay? It would be different if football coaches could challenge every
play, in which they disagreed with the end result.
The logic behind the loss of timeout
following a failed instant replay challenge; supposedly makes coaches think
about the play before throwing the red flag. Give me a break, this is not a
court of law and no one is filing a frivolous lawsuit. It is not as if NFL
officiating crews always have a good night. The least the NFL can do is repeal
the loss of timeout possibility from a team's instant replay challenge.
